Sabinal ISD COVID-19 Update 4/17/2020

April 17, 2020

Dear Sabinal ISD family,

Today, April 17th, Governor Abbott announced all Texas schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This follows President Trump’s guidance indicating schools should remain closed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As scheduled on our district calendar, the last day of school for Sabinal ISD is May 21st. We will continue to provide remote instruction for all students using virtual and traditional learning platforms.
I am hopeful to have a decision regarding graduation soon, as all districts are waiting on guidance from the Texas Education Commissioner. It is my desire to provide our seniors and their families with a live ceremony, hopefully in June; however, we are anticipating a possible virtual graduation ceremony. More information will be provided to seniors and their parents as soon as we have sufficient guidance. All other end-of-year ceremonies and activities are cancelled due to the newly announced Governor’s Executive Orders.

Due to an abundance of caution our entire district continues to operate under a strict 14-day self-quarantine to prevent any further exposure of COVID-19 to our employees, students and community until Friday, April 24th. We will resume our student "Grab and Go" meals for breakfast and lunch beginning April 27th. Once we reopen, please contact Shea Gilleland at 830-444-0650 if you have any questions or concerns.

This has been an incredibly challenging time for our entire school district and community. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to endure this unprecedented situation. We look forward to the day that we are able to welcome our students and staff back into our buildings.

Sincerely,
Richard W. Grill Superintendent
